The noble businesswoman who married the Prophet ﷺ, comforted him after the first revelation, became the first believer, and received greetings of peace from Allah Himself.
Khadijah bint Khuwaylid (RA) was a noble and wealthy businesswoman of Quraysh, known in the seerah for her purity and good character even before Islam. She employed men to trade on her behalf. Hearing of the honesty of Muhammad ﷺ, whom the people of Makkah called al-Amin, the trustworthy, she entrusted him with her goods on a trading journey to Syria, accompanied by her servant Maysarah. He returned with great profit, and Maysarah told her of his excellent character. She proposed marriage, and they married when he was twenty-five; the well-known report in the seerah is that she was forty. For about twenty-five years she was his only wife, and she bore all his children except Ibrahim: al-Qasim, Abdullah, Zaynab, Ruqayyah, Umm Kulthum and Fatimah.
When the Prophet ﷺ came home from the Cave of Hira after the first revelation, trembling, he said, "Cover me, cover me," and told her, "I fear for myself." Her reply is among the most beautiful words of support ever spoken: "Never! By Allah, Allah will never disgrace you. You keep the ties of kinship, you carry the burden of the weak, you help the destitute, you honour the guest, and you support people in true hardship." She then took him to her cousin Waraqah ibn Nawfal, a learned Christian, who confirmed that this was the same angel Allah had sent to Musa. She became the very first person to believe in his message.
For ten years she supported the da'wah with her wealth, her wise counsel and her love. She shared the hardships of the boycott in the valley of Abu Talib, where the Muslims and Banu Hashim suffered hunger for about three years. Soon after the boycott ended, in the tenth year of prophethood, she passed away, and the Prophet ﷺ grieved deeply. That year is remembered as the Year of Sorrow.
Allah Himself honoured her. Abu Hurairah (RA) narrated that Jibril came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: "Here is Khadijah coming with a dish of food or drink. When she reaches you, convey to her greetings of peace from her Lord and from me, and give her glad tidings of a house in Paradise made of hollow pearl, in which there is neither noise nor tiredness."
The Prophet ﷺ never forgot her. He said: "The best of its women was Maryam daughter of Imran, and the best of its women was Khadijah." Aishah (RA) said she never felt such jealousy towards any wife of the Prophet ﷺ as she did towards Khadijah, though she had never seen her, because he mentioned her so often. He would slaughter a sheep and send portions of it to Khadijah's friends. In a narration in Musnad Ahmad, he said of her: "She believed in me when people disbelieved, she affirmed me when people denied me, she supported me with her wealth when people deprived me, and Allah gave me children through her."
Khadijah (RA) remains a model of a believing woman and wife: wise, generous, loyal and strong, and the first to say "yes" to the truth.

- Good character is a sign of a person Allah will not disgrace.
- Use your wealth and skills to support the truth.
- Loyalty and gratitude should continue even after a loved one has passed.
- Allah honours those who are first to support what is right.
حضرت خدیجہ بنت خویلد رضی اللہ عنہا: سب سے پہلے ایمان لانے والی
وہ معزز تاجر خاتون جنہوں نے رسول اللہ ﷺ سے نکاح کیا، پہلی وحی کے بعد آپ ﷺ کو تسلی دی، سب سے پہلے ایمان لائیں، اور جنہیں خود اللہ تعالیٰ کی طرف سے سلام پہنچایا گیا۔
حضرت خدیجہ بنت خویلد رضی اللہ عنہا قریش کی ایک معزز اور دولت مند تاجر خاتون تھیں، اور سیرت کی کتابوں کے مطابق اسلام سے پہلے بھی اپنی پاکیزگی اور اچھے اخلاق کے لیے مشہور تھیں۔ وہ اپنی طرف سے تجارت کے لیے لوگوں کو مال دے کر بھیجتی تھیں۔ جب انہوں نے محمد ﷺ کی دیانت داری کا شہرہ سنا، جنہیں مکہ والے ”الامین“ کہتے تھے، تو اپنے غلام میسرہ کے ساتھ اپنا مال دے کر آپ ﷺ کو تجارت کے لیے شام بھیجا۔ آپ ﷺ بہت نفع لے کر لوٹے، اور میسرہ نے آپ ﷺ کے بلند اخلاق کا حال سنایا۔ حضرت خدیجہ رضی اللہ عنہا نے نکاح کا پیغام بھیجا، اور جب نکاح ہوا تو رسول اللہ ﷺ کی عمر پچیس برس تھی؛ سیرت کی مشہور روایت کے مطابق حضرت خدیجہ رضی اللہ عنہا کی عمر چالیس برس تھی۔ تقریباً پچیس سال تک وہ آپ ﷺ کی واحد زوجہ رہیں، اور حضرت ابراہیم کے سوا آپ ﷺ کی تمام اولاد انہی سے ہوئی: قاسم، عبداللہ، زینب، رقیہ، ام کلثوم اور فاطمہ۔
جب پہلی وحی کے بعد رسول اللہ ﷺ غارِ حرا سے کانپتے ہوئے گھر تشریف لائے تو فرمایا: ”مجھے کمبل اوڑھا دو، مجھے کمبل اوڑھا دو“، اور فرمایا: ”مجھے اپنی جان کا خوف ہے۔“ ان کا جواب تسلی کے سب سے خوبصورت الفاظ میں سے ہے: ”ہرگز نہیں! اللہ کی قسم، اللہ آپ کو کبھی رسوا نہیں کرے گا۔ آپ رشتہ داروں سے صلہ رحمی کرتے ہیں، کمزوروں کا بوجھ اٹھاتے ہیں، ناداروں کی مدد کرتے ہیں، مہمان نوازی کرتے ہیں اور حق کی راہ میں پیش آنے والی مصیبتوں میں لوگوں کا ساتھ دیتے ہیں۔“ پھر وہ آپ ﷺ کو اپنے چچا زاد بھائی ورقہ بن نوفل کے پاس لے گئیں جو عیسائی عالم تھے، اور انہوں نے تصدیق کی کہ یہ وہی فرشتہ ہے جسے اللہ نے موسیٰ علیہ السلام کے پاس بھیجا تھا۔ حضرت خدیجہ رضی اللہ عنہا آپ ﷺ کے پیغام پر سب سے پہلے ایمان لانے والی ہستی بنیں۔
دس سال تک انہوں نے اپنے مال، دانشمندانہ مشورے اور محبت سے دعوت کا ساتھ دیا۔ شعبِ ابی طالب کے بائیکاٹ کی سختیوں میں بھی وہ شریک رہیں، جہاں مسلمان اور بنو ہاشم تقریباً تین سال بھوک اور تنگی میں رہے۔ بائیکاٹ ختم ہونے کے کچھ ہی عرصے بعد، نبوت کے دسویں سال، ان کا انتقال ہو گیا اور رسول اللہ ﷺ کو بے حد صدمہ ہوا۔ یہ سال ”عام الحزن“ یعنی غم کا سال کہلاتا ہے۔
خود اللہ تعالیٰ نے انہیں عزت بخشی۔ حضرت ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ روایت کرتے ہیں کہ جبریل علیہ السلام رسول اللہ ﷺ کے پاس آئے اور کہا: ”یہ خدیجہ کھانے یا پینے کا ایک برتن لے کر آ رہی ہیں۔ جب وہ آپ کے پاس پہنچیں تو انہیں ان کے رب کی طرف سے اور میری طرف سے سلام کہیے، اور انہیں جنت میں کھوکھلے موتی کے ایک گھر کی بشارت دیجیے جس میں نہ شور ہوگا نہ تھکن۔“
رسول اللہ ﷺ انہیں کبھی نہ بھولے۔ آپ ﷺ نے فرمایا: ”اپنے زمانے کی بہترین عورت مریم بنت عمران تھیں، اور اپنے زمانے کی بہترین عورت خدیجہ ہیں۔“ حضرت عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہا فرماتی ہیں کہ مجھے رسول اللہ ﷺ کی کسی زوجہ پر اتنا رشک نہیں آیا جتنا خدیجہ پر، حالانکہ میں نے انہیں دیکھا بھی نہیں تھا، کیونکہ آپ ﷺ ان کا ذکر بہت کثرت سے کرتے تھے۔ آپ ﷺ بکری ذبح کرتے تو اس کا گوشت حضرت خدیجہ رضی اللہ عنہا کی سہیلیوں کو بھجواتے۔ مسند احمد کی ایک روایت میں ہے کہ آپ ﷺ نے ان کے بارے میں فرمایا: ”وہ مجھ پر اس وقت ایمان لائیں جب لوگوں نے انکار کیا، انہوں نے میری تصدیق کی جب لوگوں نے مجھے جھٹلایا، اپنے مال سے میری مدد کی جب لوگوں نے مجھے محروم رکھا، اور اللہ نے مجھے ان سے اولاد عطا فرمائی۔“
حضرت خدیجہ رضی اللہ عنہا ایک مومن عورت اور بیوی کا بہترین نمونہ ہیں: دانا، سخی، وفادار اور مضبوط، اور حق کو سب سے پہلے ”ہاں“ کہنے والی۔
اسباق
- مومن شریکِ حیات مشکل وقت میں قوت اور سکون کا ذریعہ ہوتا ہے۔
- اچھے اخلاق اس بات کی علامت ہیں کہ اللہ ایسے شخص کو رسوا نہیں کرے گا۔
- اپنے مال اور صلاحیتوں سے حق کا ساتھ دو۔
- وفاداری اور شکر گزاری کسی پیارے کے رخصت ہونے کے بعد بھی جاری رہنی چاہیے۔
- اللہ ان لوگوں کو عزت دیتا ہے جو حق کا سب سے پہلے ساتھ دیتے ہیں۔
